Beyoncé Pays Homage to Her Family Roots with New Whisky
SirDavis is inspired by her farmer/moonshiner great-grandfather, Davis Hogue.
As if we really needed another reminder of Beyoncé’s ability to do literally anything, we got one.
Global music superstar? Check. Accomplished film maker? Check. Whisky maker? Checking that off now too. Mrs. Knowles-Carter has partnered with Moet-Hennessy on a new American whisky called SirDavis, which also marks the international conglomerate’s first spirits brand developed entirely in the US (it’s based in Beyoncé’s hometown of Houston, TX).
"I've always been drawn to the power and confidence I feel when drinking quality whisky and wanted to invite more people to experience that feeling," says Knowles-Carter. "When I discovered that my great-grandfather had been a moonshine man, it felt like my love for whisky was fated. SirDavis is a way for me to pay homage to him, uniting us through a new shared legacy.”
The 51% rye and 49% malted barley American whisky is named in honor of Beyoncé’s paternal great-grandfather, a farmer and amateur distiller known for providing moonshine to his friends and family during Prohibition. The whisky itself takes inspiration from both Japanese and Scottish varieties, and although Queen Bey did work with Master Distiller Dr. Bill Lumsden on the formula, she designed the bottle herself, “a tall, eye-catching bottle with intentional design elements that make the vessel an unmistakable beacon of luxury.” Seems like Solange isn't the only member of the family with an eye for design after all.
While there are plenty of celebrity whiskies on the market – not to mention all the other liquor brands owned by famous people – SirDavis is one of the few with a woman at the helm (and the only with Beyoncé herself). It’s safe to say, we’ll drink to that.
SirDavis retails for $89 and is available online or in stores across the U.S., as well as in select airports and stores in London, Paris and Tokyo.
