Say Shell-o to Birmingham’s Newest Catch
What to know, what to wear and what to order at Bayonet.

Welcome to Chow Now, giving you a sneak peek and insider tips for new restaurants we're super excited about.
Chef Rob McDaniel has doubled down on Birmingham’s dining scene with the opening of his newest concept, Bayonet.
What to Know
The second restaurant from Chef McDaniel and his wife Emily, Bayonet is adjacent to their ever-popular first restaurant, Helen. While Helen leans into McDaniel's Southern roots, Bayonet goes full throttle into the world of seafood, delivering a bold, sustainably sourced menu.

The name is inspired by the Spanish Bayonet plant — a spiky, no-nonsense beauty that symbolizes strength and resilience. Designed by Hatcher Schuster Interiors, the space is equal parts polished and playful with 17-foot ceilings, a bright, open layout with seating for 54, a sleek raw bar with 10 prime seats, a cozy 12-seat bar and a laid-back parlor.

The details are the real catch. A wall lined with 36 rare antique oyster plates. Coral-hued seating that pops. Custom tile work framing the raw bar. Even the chandeliers are made from delicate oyster shells. Two commissioned pieces by Birmingham artist Roscoe Hall tie it all together. Meals are plated on custom pottery from Birmingham-based Civil Stoneware.
