Entertain Like the French with These 11 Items
Cheryl Guibone, owner of beaucoup maison, shares her favorite tableware, vases and recent cookbook obsession.
Ever since Cheryl Guibone, owner of home store beaucoup maison in downtown Newport, RI, opened beaucoup, a cafe and boutique on Thames Street with a bright, yellow striped awning and to-die-for pastries, we wanted to know more.
A former attorney in New York City who made a pivot and landed in design, everything about beaucoup – from the gingham settee to chic picnic baskets to impeccably styled tablescapes – inspires a certain… je ne sais quoi? So, we asked Guibone to share that joie de vivre with us.
“I really enjoy entertaining - at home, at the cafe, at my mother’s house while visiting with our large family. I love to cook - nothing precious - some fun salads, soups, old school casseroles (yes!). I also love setting a table - some new, some old pieces, nice napkins and flowers! It takes only a few minutes to create a special environment - cuttings from the garden, pretty plates, tablecloth. What I find most important about entertaining is that people feel comfortable, and open up to a meal full of love, conversation and fun. A mix of people is essential - different ages, occupations, mindsets. There is nothing better than having a wonderful meal while laughing with interesting people. That’s the secret - good honest people!”
Inspired by her trips to France and Spain for beaucoup’s distinctly European feel, here are a few ideas to help recreate that beaucoup vibe at home.
