Making its comeback this month, Shambala Private Game Reserve is the glow-up of one of South Africa’s most exclusive safari escapes. The timing feels spot-on, as Shambala taps Pinterest Predicts’ 2026 “Khaki Coded” trend, where safari style meets streetwear.
That same utility-meets-luxury ethos carries through the redesign by designer Cate Simpson. It’s centered on modern African style, wide-open layouts and interiors that blur seamlessly into the wilderness.

The safaris, of course, are the showstopper. Private Big Five game drives, walking excursions and cultural encounters all put you right in the thick of it.

The history hits, too. Shambala, along with its sister property, Johannesburg’s Saxon Hotel, is tied to Nelson Mandela, who wrote parts of Long Walk to Freedom here. His five-bedroom villa has been meticulously restored, giving guests the ~wild~ chance to stay where history was written.
