West Texas Is Booming
Stay like a wildcatter at these Landman-inspired hotels
There’s a new show from Taylor Sheridan starring Jon Hamm, Demi Moore, Billy Bob Thornton set in West Texas. Say less.
Landman, the newest show from writer and creator Taylor Sheridan (known for the blockbuster show Yellowstone and owner of 6666 Ranch in central Texas) premiered on Paramount+ and we think it's a hit.
Based on West Texan Christian Wallace's Texas Monthly podcast "Boomtown," Landman is set in the proverbial ‘boomtown’ oil fields of Midland-Odessa. Filmed mostly around Fort Worth and Weatherford, Landman stars Jon Hamm as Fort Worth-based billionaire Monty Miller, Demi Moore as his wife Cami and Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, a 'landman,' which, according to the Houston Chronicle, is “a seemingly old-fashioned term for the person oil companies hire to negotiate oil, gas and mineral rights with sometimes hostile landowners.”
While we’re excited for the drama certain to unfold in true Sheridan style, we’re really here for the West Texas scenery. Although Odessa, probably best known as the setting for Friday Night Lights, isn’t really a tourist destination, some of the towns and settings around it aren’t to be missed.
To capture the Landman vibe, we’ve put together a list of some of the most “Texan” hotels to check out next time you’re in the area:
