Track Your Bag, Stay Unbothered with United’s New AirTag Feature

Few things are a bigger vibe killer while traveling than a lost bag.

With 2.8 million bags mishandled by U.S. airlines last year alone, even the savviest travelers aren’t immune to luggage drama.

Luckily, United Airlines understood the assignment. The airline is the first to roll out Apple’s new Share Item Location feature, letting travelers with AirTags share their luggage’s live location with United’s customer service team.

Here’s how it works: If your bag doesn’t arrive at your destination, start by taking a deep breath and filing a delayed baggage report in the United app. Then, hop over to the Find My app to generate a Share Item Location link and add it to the report. United’s team can then track your bag’s every move on an interactive map. Hopefully, you two will be reunited faster than you can say “airport sushi.”

Privacy stans, don’t worry: United says the entire process is end-to-end encrypted, and location sharing automatically ends once your bag is back in your hands. To use the feature, ensure your iPhone is running on iOS 18.2 or later and update your United app.
