Sweet Dreams Are Made of Cheese
We need s’more of this savory new treat.
With cooler temps and cozy nights on the horizon, we’re seeing a tasty new trend happening online.
Our favorite fromage friendly feeds like @ainttooproudtomeg, @makefoodlovely and @thatcheeseplate have opened our eyes to a brie-lliant new kind of treat: savory s’mores.
Rapidly catching fire (see what we did there?) across Instagram and TikTok, this new cheesy trend sees the marshmallows often found in traditional s'mores replaced with melted cheese, resulting in a warm, melty and crispy campfire treat with a rich, cheesy flavor.
We asked Emmy Rener, the founder of @sophisticatedspreads, to share her tips on the charred-cuterie trend.
“Savory smores are the perfect combination of what everyone loves about smores, and what classic s’mores miss the mark on,” says Rener. “The beauty of them is that you can sit there all night and enjoy many different cheese variations and flavor combinations."
“Some combos I like are -- BabyBel (just trust me on this) because its stretchable, easily meltable, and goes well with pepper jelly. I like to do a piece of brie with fig jam, and maybe an aged gouda or mimolette with some honey!”
Here are s’more ways to enjoy the trend at home (cheese not included):
