Every Day Should Be Dolly Parton Day
August 5th is our new favorite holiday.
While we’d argue that every day should be Dolly Parton Day, today actually is Dolly Parton Day in the city of Nashville.
In 2019, former Nashville mayor David Briley proclaimed August 5th as the official day of the year to celebrate the queen of Music City. This honor acknowledges Dolly's long history with the city of Nashville and the state of Tennessee, as well as commemorating Dolly’s debut at the age of 13 on the Grand Ole Opry stage at the Ryman Auditorium and her fateful move to Nashville at 18. Of course, those aren’t Dolly’s only contributions to the city she’s called home for 60+ years: she’s also gifted over 125 million free books to children around the world through her Nashville-based Imagination Library and, well, she’s Dolly Parton - what else is there to say?
If you happen to be in Nashville this week, make sure to stop by the Dolly statue at Graduate Nashville’s rooftop bar White Limozeen or visit her mural in East Nashville. If you aren’t in Nashville for the joyous occasion, here are a few fun ways to celebrate Dolly at home.
