It’s a Pickle-Flavored World

Pickles are taking over every aspect of food and beverage — and we're not mad about it.

We all have that one friend who chalks up part (if not all) of their personality to loving pickles and pickle-flavored things, swiping yet another one straight from the jar with a fork.

And either these friends have been successfully spreading the gospel or everyone else is just finally catching on to the hype, because if you haven’t noticed, pickles are really having a moment. Like, really really.

From snacks to spritzers, pickles are soaking up the spotlight, moving beyond their once-modest domain of infused vodka or as a chaser to Jameson. According to Yelp, searches for pickle-flavored foods have risen by 55%, while Grubhub revealed an 89% increase in pickle orders. IndustryARC even reports that the pickle market is estimated to reach $12.3 billion by 2027.

Those in a constant social media browse may already be aware of various recipes and food innovations taking platforms like TikTok by storm (looking at you, pickle margarita), and if you’ve grocery shopped IRL lately, you may have also noticed the newest Doritos flavor on snack shelves.

Don’t get us wrong, we certainly aren’t bashing on the pickle hype train—in fact, pickles can be a good source of fiber, beta carotene and vitamin K. But buyers should beware that pickles made using vinegar are a) not fermented and b) therefore don’t count in their quest for healthy gut probiotics. It’s probably also smart to point out that eating an entire bag of Tangy Pickle Doritos won’t count toward your vitamin K intake (sorry).

If anything, this rise in pickle-flavored-everything is both validating for longtime pickle connoisseurs and really, really promising for the antacid market. Make sure to grab some for your one friend, or yourself if it's turns out you're the biggest pickle lover in the group chat.
