Eat Dessert First
This new art exhibit makes all our sweet dreams come true.
With 160,000 works of art, the Kunstmuseum in the Netherlands is one of Europe’s biggest art museums.
Set in a stunning Art Deco building in The Hague, it has a leading collection of modern and contemporary art, fashion and decorative arts. But, it’s the most recent show that has visions of sugarplums dancing in our heads. Grand Dessert – The History of the Dessert, a new exhibition focused on the enjoyment of desserts in Europe from 1600 to the present day explores a number of subjects including ice cream, custards, cake, fruit, royal desserts, you name it.
Running through April of next year, The exhibition includes hundreds of objects, both from Kunstmuseum Den Haag’s own collection as well as independent artists, including one of our faves, Kate Jenkins. Exhibits will include everything from baking tins, recipe books, ice cream molds, menus and there will also be a gallery specially designed for children. Last but not least, a special element has been added: scents. Developed by International Flavors and Fragrances, 12 fragrances waft through the exhibit ranging from the spicy fragrance of Indonesian sponge cake to the delicious smell of apple pie.
But if a trip to the Netherlands isn’t in the plans, here are some other sweet ways to enjoy dessert first:
