This Season's Hottest Handbag Is Actually a Charm
Meet the 'charming' way fashionistas are reinventing their handbag.
Between a conscious focus on underconsumption and this year’s obsession with DIY charm necklaces, it’s not surprising to see that this fall’s biggest handbag trend is not buying a new handbag at all – it's bringing a handbag to life with funky, whimsical charms. Marie Claire cites that, “searches for ‘bag charms’ have spiked 240% on Pinterest since last year and are currently the highest they’ve been in a decade on Google.”
Bag charms are being called “the trend of the summer,” even though Vogue called it last year, when fashion editors first made reference to them following the death of fashion icon Jane Birkin, who famously charmed up her namesake Hermés bag. Also known as “Jane Birkin-fying,” charms also made their way into it-brand Miu Miu’s Spring 2024 show, Fendi added leather lollipop holders and Coach had I ❤️New York coffee mug charms clipped to them.
Taking inspiration from the streets of Copenhagen Fashion Week and Coach’s bag-as-a-bag-charm, here are some deliciously delightful ways to add a little extra ‘charm’ to your bag:
