'The Wild Robot' Is Right on Trend

Well kids, it’s finally time.

Everyone’s favorite literary robot is making her big screen debut when DreamWorks Animation‘s The Wild Robot movie premieres on September 27^th.  Based on the book series by Peter Brown, The Wild Robot tells the story of Roz, short for ROZZUM unit 7134, an intelligent robot stranded on an uninhabited island after a shipwreck. To survive the harsh environment, Roz must learn to adapt to the new surroundings and ends up bonding with the island's animals and caring for an orphaned baby goose.  

What’s all the fuss about, you might ask?

Besides being a longstanding favorite of children (and their parents) since the book debuted in 2016, The Wild Robot feels especially timely due to its themes of conservation, community, friendship, love and sacrifice. The New York Times writes that The Wild Robot introduces a “mix of tragedy and joy that define great art and also real life. The life of a wild robot, in other words, is pretty similar to the life of a kid. That's what makes Brown's trilogy so powerful. Readers love Roz, but they also learn from her. Even better, they learn alongside her.”
