Food is often front of mind for famed improviser, late-night host and all-around funny human, Stephen Colbert.

In fact, if you watch any of his “Colbert Questionert” segments from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, for instance, you'll see just how much he cares about sandwiches and the battle between apples and oranges. But can he cook? Well, based on the release of his new cookbook Does This Taste Funny?, which he co-wrote with his wife Evie McGee Colbert, it sure seems so.

The book from the smitten married couple was a long process from kitchen to bookshelves. “We have been working on (this) together for two years. We hope everyone enjoys the recipes and stories. We made it with love…and an enormous amount of butter.”

And while food has always been a big part of the Colberts' lives, for the part-time Charleston locals, it was actually the pandemic that changed their relationship to cooking, as it did for most of us (sourdough starters, anyone?). “We were all stuck together and couldn’t go out, so we cooked,” said Colbert. “We had all three kids back under one roof for the first time in a long time, and we had dinner each night as a family. Cooking together became a major source of entertainment.”

The new cookbook includes a wide range of family recipes, from Party Food “because “appetizers” implies something to follow when we all know that, often, this is the only course” and cocktails, to larger, sharable dishes and, of course, plenty of desserts.
