Ponies in Cardigans? Say Less.
Scotland's glamour shots of cardi-clad animals are trending.
It seems that ponies in cardis never go out of style.
Although launched in 2013, Scotland's National Tourism Organization campaign of dressing Shetland ponies in cardigans is having a moment on social media. And with most of the U.S. in a polar vortex, now seems like as good a time as any to fantasize about a vacay — but definitely somewhere with animals in sweaters.
Dubbed the "Year of Natural Scotland," the campaign was meant to encourage people to "come and celebrate Scotland's outstanding natural beauty," according to its website. Ignoring the historic castles, abundant golf, the legendary loch ness monster, world-famous Scotch whisky and the fact that posh royals love to vacation there, Scotland chose two, four-legged glamour girls named Fivla and Vitamin — dressed in jumpers created from Shetland wool created specifically for them by local knitter Doreen Brown — to attract visitors.
More recently, Visit Scotland upped the game by introducing Julie, the Highland 'super moo-del' cow from Newton Farm Holidays & Tours wearing a bespoke garment created by local knitters.
