Beauty and the Beef
Beef tallow is taking the beauty industry by storm.
Open TikTok and you’re bound to run into a beauty evangelist singing the gospel of beef tallow.
Beef tallow, which comes from the fatty tissue of cows, is usually used as a cooking fat due to its high smoke point, in candle making or even for soaps. Using beef tallow is also considered a sustainable way to use the entire animal. But, we're seeing beef tallow used in a totally different way. A natural ingredient rich in fatty acids like stearic and oleic, as well as vitamins A, D, E, and K, beef tallow has gone beyond the kitchen and into the vanity with the sudden boom of beef tallow skin products and treatments.
But is beef tallow actually worth it? What does it DO for you? Is it worth the hype? The answer is hotly debated, with proponents stating it cleared stubborn acne, and critics saying it’s nothing more than strong moisturizer, can clog pores, and its production lacks regulations because it’s so new.
TLDR: at worst, it’s a thick, natural moisturizer that could clog your pores. At best, it’s a natural remedy to restore the skin barrier, reduce acne, and give you the skin of your dreams.
